Reading Comprehension Strategy

Provide books at the right level. Make sure your child gets lots of practice reading books that aren't too hard. She should recognize at least 90 percent of the words without any help. Stopping any more often than that to figure out a word makes it tough for her to focus on the overall meaning of the story. If your child needs help transitioning from picture books to chapter books, try Scholastic's Branches line, which is designed to bridge that gap for growing readers.

The book fair will be open next week at conferences.  This is a great time to get books at a cheaper rate!
