Curriculum Director




The first quarter is under our belts as AC/GC Chargers and things are going well. The students and teachers have adjusted, and I am learning my new position as curriculum director. We finished NWEA testing in both the junior and high school. The ACT report is out as well. It was presented in November's School to Home publication.

Upcoming: We will take Iowa Assessments in January in all buidlings: grades 3-12.

Mrs. Mahaffey’s biography

I was raised in Guthrie Center, Iowa.  I grew up and graduated from the Guthrie Center Community School District. I attended college at the University of Northern Iowa- Go Panthers! My husband Alan graduated from Kickapoo High School in Springfield, MO, as well as Drury University.

We have three children: Andrew, Olivia, and Isaiah. Andrew and Olivia attend Guthrie Center Elementary. Isaiah is a preschooler.


Reading, traveling, music (listening), technology. I love to travel internationally. I have been to Spain, Costa Rica, and France. This summer Mr. Shawgo and I are traveling with students to Italy and Greece.


I graduated from Guthrie Center High School. I earned a BA in English teaching from the University of Northern Iowa.  I also earned my Master in Arts in Teaching from University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, KS.

Work background:

Prior to teaching at Guthrie Center, I taught for 9 years at Republic Middle School in Republic, MO and two years at Crane Middle School in Crane, MO.  This is my 4th year at Guthrie Center and 15th year in education.
