Mrs. Schlueter's Web Page

I love that our weather is beginning to change for the better! We have had some snow still melting which has created a muddy mess.  Please continue sending in their boots so that we can keep our classroom mud free.

In reading, we have been working on our fluency.  We talk about the rate we read. We talk about "reading like you are talking", using expression, and reading smoothly.  As we learn to read, many times we encourage the students to use their finger to follow the words.  As they become better readers, we learn to move away from using their finger and reading smoothly with our eyes. Please continue reading to your child at home, as well as listening to them read to you!

In math, we continue to practice strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems.  Although not all strategies work for everyone, we have introduced many different ones which help the kids to understand the why.  If you would like to see a particular strategy in action, you can take a look at “Teaching independent learners” on You Tube.  I have placed the link below.  We have started our next module dealing with place value.

Please remember to check through your child’s bag each night and take items out of their “keep at home” side of their folder.  We need our take home folder returned daily so we can refill it with things to bring home.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
