No School for Spring Break

Just a reminder, AC/GC will have no school on March 14th & 15th, for a long weekend and spring break. School will resume on Monday, March 18th. Hopefully your family can plan a getaway, staycation, or work on some spring cleaning around this extended 4 day weekend.

School Bus Safety

This past week we had a vehicle who passed through a stopped school bus with their lights flashing and stop signs extended. This is a very dangerous situation for our students, along with a traffic violation that will be reported to our sheriff's department. Please drive with caution around our school buses and obey the lights and signs when we are transporting our students before and after school.

See the tips below for motorists taken from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, along with the attached bus safety brochure from the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Tips for Motorists:

  • Be alert and slow down when driving in neighborhoods with school zones.

  • Watch for children walking, playing or assembling near bus stops. Children arriving late for the bus may dart into the street without looking for traffic.

  • Flashing yellow lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children. Motorists should slow down and prepare to stop their vehicles.

  • Flashing red lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. Motorists must stop their cars and wait until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving before they can start driving again.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to others about school bus safety and driving safely around all school buses!

Fuel the Chargers Program

New Century FS continues to offer the FUEL the Chargers program to our school. This program creates a unique opportunity that the entire community can participate in to help raise money to support the educational programs for our students. Visit the school's website,

www.acgcschools.org, and look for the Fuel the Chargers link for detailed information. All that is needed to support the Fuel the Chargers program is to purchase gas or diesel with a Fuel the Chargers/New Century FS card at any of the FASTSTOP locations throughout Iowa.

Two times a year, New Century FS will accumulate all the gallons purchased under the Fuel the Chargers program and present a check to the school to support various programs at AC/GC Schools. This past month New Century FS donated $771, or 3 cents for every gallon purchased through the FS card, back to the school. Thank you for your support of our schools through the participation in the Fuel the Chargers program!
