Dear Parents, Students, and Community members,

First of all, I would like to introduce myself as the new superintendent of Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Schools! My name is Josh Rasmussen and I come to AC/GC from Atlantic CSD where I served as a teacher, assistant principal/activities director, and middle school principal for the past 23 years. My family resides in Atlantic where my wife Melanie is a kindergarten teacher, my daughter Haley is a sophomore at Simpson College, and my son Colton will be a junior at Atlantic High School. Some of my hobbies include watching my kids play sports, fishing, hunting, officiating basketball games, starting track meets, and cheering on both the Iowa State Cyclones and Kansas City Chiefs! I’ve enjoyed meeting many new people during my first few weeks at school and I look forward to meeting many more of you once the school year begins!

Infinite Campus

This past school year AC/GC schools updated their student database system to Infinite Campus. This will be a change for all school stakeholders, including parents, as we enter the 2022-2023 school year. After researching a number of student database systems, Infinite Campus became the choice from our leadership teams, and a change from JMC began this past spring. We ask for your patience and understanding as we all learn the new system this school year. Please look for an email on August 4th on how to log into your Infinite Campus account, pay your school fees, and register your students for school.

Registration

As we begin to prepare for the start of school on August 23rd, I wanted to make you aware of the following dates for the upcoming school year. Building principals will provide specific information on orientations, open houses, and starting the school year. Registration will occur online with our new student database system, Infinite Campus, as well as in person in each building on August 4th from 5:00-7:00 PM. Again, all registration may be done online through Infinite Campus, including paying your school fees and registering your students for school.

August 4th- Registration Begins

August 23rd- First day of school!

School Safety

In June of this year, Governor Reynolds announced a $100 million dollar investment in school safety for the state of Iowa. This fund provides a vulnerability risk assessment free of charge for each of our school buildings in the Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center school districts. Based upon the results of our assessment, each school building will have access to a School Safety Improvement Fund making up to $50,000 available per school building to make recommended safety improvements. The Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Education, and the Adair/Guthrie County Emergency Management will assist in the risk assessment and recommendations for each of our buildings. As a school we will use all available resources, including our local law enforcement, to ensure we have a safe place for our students and staff of AC/GC schools.

County Fair

Good luck to all of those participating in our area county fairs! With many of our area fairs concluding and Guthrie County planning their fair for the first week in September, some of our families have been busy working and preparing their fair projects this summer. As a former member of the Northeast Sodbusters 4-H club in Shelby county, I spent many of my summers working and showing hogs at the county fair. 4-H was a great opportunity to learn about leadership, responsibility, the business side of agriculture, and the life lessons of raising livestock. Participating in the county fair is a great opportunity for many of our area youth to learn and gain leadership skills which will prepare them for their future. Good luck to all those participating!

Go Chargers!
