Parent-Teacher Conferences

November 7th and 10th are parent-teacher conference dates for AC and GC elementary, along with AC/GC Junior High. I hope everyone has a chance to schedule a parent-teacher conference and visit with each of your student’s teachers. This is a great opportunity to see the progress of your son and/or daughter, along with addressing any questions you may have at this time.

School Bus Safety

During the last few weeks, we’ve had a couple incidents where vehicles have passed a stopped school bus with their lights flashing and stop signs extended. This is a very dangerous situation for our students, along with a traffic violation that will be reported to our sheriff’s department. Please drive with caution around our school buses and obey the lights and signs when we are transporting our students before and after school.

See the tips below for motorists taken from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, along with the attached bus safety brochure from the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Tips for Motorists:

  • Be alert and slow down when driving in neighborhoods with school zones.

  • Watch for children walking, playing or assembling near bus stops. Children arriving late for the bus may dart into the street without looking for traffic.

  • Flashing yellow lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children. Motorists should slow down and prepare to stop their vehicles.

  • Flashing red lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. Motorists must stop their cars and wait until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving before they can start driving again.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to others about school bus safety and driving safely around all school buses!

Fall Activities

Congratulations to all students, coaches, and sponsors who completed their fall activities this past week. Another successful fall season of practices, competitions, and performances, highlighted by a playoff win by our football team and a state runner up trophy for our boys’ cross country team! Through the wins and losses, our students have grown as individuals and represented our communities well. Thank you to all coaches and sponsors for their role modeling, leadership, and guidance they provide for our students. Go Chargers!

Veterans Day

To honor our Veterans, AC/GC High School and GC Elementary have organized a Veterans Day Parade for Friday, November 11. This parade will begin at 8:45 AM at the High School, go to GC Elementary up State Street, and back to the AC/GC High School. The school encourages the community to line the south side of State Street at approximately 8:55 AM and wave to our veterans.

The AC/GC Junior High and A-C Elementary would like to thank veterans and their families with a Veterans Day assembly in the Junior High gymnasium. The assembly will begin at 2:30 PM, all veterans and their families are invited to attend.

Thank you to all veterans who have served and sacrificed to protect the rights and freedoms of our country. Thank you!

Go Chargers!
