Denovo Construction Solutions Update

In October, the Guthrie Center School Board contracted with Denovo Construction Solutions to perform a comprehensive Facility Condition Assessment of the Guthrie Center facilities. After the approval by the board, Denovo Construction brought in an assessment team of architects and engineers to assess the systems of all Guthrie Center facilities. This includes our mechanical, electrical, plumbing, technology, building envelope, roofing, and grounds of Guthrie Center Schools.

During the December 19th Guthrie Center school board meeting, Denovo will be presenting their initial findings and continue their data collection by interviewing staff, administration, and the board. This information will help prioritize improvement measures for our schools today, and many years to come.

Illness- Cold and Flu Season

As we enter the cold and flu season, we have experienced an increase in illness and absentee rates in each of our school buildings. As influenza, RSV, COVID-19, and other viral illnesses spread throughout the area, please use some of the practical tips below.

Iowa Department of Public Health- Practical Tips to Stay Healthy

  • Get vaccinated for the flu and COVID-19.

  • Stay home if you are sick.

  • Clean high touch surfaces in your home frequently with household disinfectants.

  • Practice hand hygiene frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or hand sanitizer.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, or if a tissue is not available, cover them with upper shirt sleeve, not a hand.

  • Avoid social gatherings if you or your children are ill.

  • Keep children home from daycare or school who have fever, especially with a cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, congestion, runny nose, or sore throat, until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medications that reduce fever.

When to Keep Your Student Home

A student should be kept home if he/she is vomiting, has a fever and/or contagious illness, or has diarrhea. Students may return to school when they have been 24 hours without symptoms or antibiotics are in their system for 24 hours.

When your student is sick, contact the school and keep them home. Thank you!

Winter Break

There will be a 2 hour early dismissal for winter break on Thursday, December 22nd. No School December 23rd - January 2nd. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 3rd.
